Installation
============

 	This section covers installing PATHWORKS Licensing Software for Protected Mode
        on a Windows for Workgroup client which is setup to use the Microsoft LAN Manager
 	network.

	The PATHWORKS Licensing Software kit contains the following modules for Microsoft
	Windows for Workgroup clients:

		* WFW\_PWLICNW.BAT
		* WFW\DECCORE.VXD
		* WFW\DECLICL.VXD
		* WFW\INSTLICL.DLL
		* WFW\INSTLICL.EXE
		* WFW\PWEL.DLL
		* WFW\PWLICNW.EXE
		* WFW\PWLICNWT.EXE
		* WFW\PWLOG.EXE
		* WFW\PWLOG.HLP
		* WFW\PWMSG.HLP

	Complete the following steps to install the licensing software:

	1) Copy the Files

 		Copy this file... to this location on the client...

 		INSTLICL.EXE           \PATHWRKS
 		PWMSG.HLP              \PATHWRKS

 		DECCORE.VXD            \WINDOWS\SYSTEM
 		INSTLICL.DLL           \WINDOWS\SYSTEM
 		PWLOG.EXE              \WINDOWS\SYSTEM
 		PWLOG.HLP              \WINDOWS\SYSTEM

	2) Modify Initialization Files

 In this file... this section... this line... add this information...

 SYSTEM.INI        [386enh]          TRANSPORT=      DECCORE.VXD
 SYSTEM.INI [DECLICL] LICENSESERVER= the PATHWORKS License
                                                     Server NODE name.
 SYSTEM.INI [DECLICL] LICENSE00= the PATHWORKS License PAK
                                                     name. See section 2.2 for
                                                     examples.
 WIN.INI           [Windows]         LOAD=           PWLOG.EXE

 NOTE:  MMSYSTEM.DLL comes with Windows.

Configuration
=============

	This section explains how to configure dial-up connections and
	presents optional configuration parameters.

	Dial-up Connections
	-------------------

	To configure dial-up (asynchronous) connected networks under Protected Mode
 	Windows for Workgroups, run INSTLICL.EXE. INSTLICL.EXE is a small Windows
	program that restarts the Windows Protected Mode LAN Manager client License
	Requester (INSTLICL.DLL). Run INSTLICL.EXE after connecting to
 	the network in order to acquire and validate a PATHWORKS client license.

	Be sure to also perform the Wide Area Network setup specified in the
 	"Guide to Managing PATHWORKS Licenses." This manual is part of
	the PATHWORKS Server documentation.

	Optional Configuration Parameters
	---------------------------------

	The process for searching and requesting a license from servers can be
	long, especially if there are many license servers on the LAN.

	Improve the search performance by adding a [DECLICL] section to SYSTEM.INI
	and specifying the following parameters:

    	LICENSEGROUP=(group)

        Specifies the system's license group. Only licenses assigned
        to the named group will be used. If using PATHWORKS Client
        software, the Configuration Template keyword LICENSEGROUP will
        override this value. If neither is specified, new licenses will
        be acquired from the group named "default".

    	LICENSESERVER=(server)

        License server name. This parameter is required for all Wide
        Area Network configurations where the license server is not
        on the local network (DECnet LAN or TCP/IP subnet). Common
        examples are Async DECnet and Async TCP/IP. If using PATHWORKS
        Client software, the Configuration Template keyword LICENSESERVER
        will override this value. (The named server will also be the first
        server asked for new licenses.)

    	LICENSE00=(PAK-value) through LICENSE09=(PAK-value)

        These keywords contain PAK names of licenses to be acquired.

	        Example:
        	         Producer: DEC
                	 Product:  PWLMDOSCC06.00

	        Example SYSTEM.INI contents:

	                 [DECLICL]
        	         LICENSE00=DEC-PWLMDOSCC06.00

  	NOTE: If the value does not start with DEC-, DEC, or PW,
		the first three characters in the value will be
		used as the Producer code and the remainder will
		be used as the Product code.

	    LICHINT=<n>

	        This value is used if LICENSE00 through LICENSE09 are not defined
        	either in the PATHWORKS template or in the SYSTEM.INI file.

        	Where the value for <n> is, 0=DEC-PWLMXXXFPnn.00
                        	                   1=DEC-PWLMDOSCCnn.nn
                	                           2=DEC-PWXXDOSATnn.nn

	    LICTIMEOUT=(sec)

	        Maximum time (in seconds) to allow for connecting to each license
        	server and getting a response for each license server request.
	        The default is 5 seconds.

Examples
========

	In these examples, the License Server nodename is "MARS", and the
 	license requested is DEC-PWLMDOSCC06.00.

	SYSTEM.INI Example
	------------------

	Modify the site specific information (ie LicenseServer, transports, PAKs)
 	by substituting information relevant to your site.

	 SYSTEM.INI
	 ----------
 	[boot]
 	...
 	drivers=mmsystem.dll,instlicl.dll
 	...
 	[386enh]
 	...
 	network=*vnetbios,*vwc,vnetsup.386,vredir.386,vserver.386,declicl.vxd
 	...
 	transport=deccore.vxd,vip.386,vdhcp.386,vtdi.386,vtcp.386,vnbt.386,netbeui.386
 	...
 	[DECLICL]
 	LICENSESERVER=MARS
	LICENSE00=DECPWLMDOSCC06.00

	WIN.INI Example
	---------------

	Modify the WIN.INI file to start the Event Log (optional). This will aid
 	in verifying a license was obtained.

	WIN.INI
 	-------
 	...
 	load=c:\windows\system\PWLOG.EXE
 	...

TROUBLESHOOTING
===============

	Viewing the Log File
	--------------------

	When Windows starts, the license requester (INSTLICL.DLL) will start
 	and request/validate the license. PWLOG.EXE (if loaded in WIN.INI)
 	automatically gathers information. The PATHWORKS Event Log will contain
 	information similar to this:

	LICL0300S: Client Licensing VXD installed (SignOn)
 	LRQL0200S: PATHWORKS LAN Manager Client License Requester
     	                (INSTLICL.DLL) Version V6.0.022 (SignOn)
	LRQL0200S:      Copyright (c) 1993-1995 Digital Equipment Corp.
        	        All Rights Reserved.  (SignOn)
	LRQL0200N:      Searching for license servers...
 	LRQL0200N:      Scanning network for licenses...
	LRQL0200N:      Requesting licenses...
 	LRQL0200N: Loading one license into license transponder
 	LRQL0200N:      memory:
 	LRQL0200N:      License "=DECPWLMDOSCC06.00" from server
	LRQL0200N:      "MARS" group "default"

	Troubleshooting Steps
	---------------------

	The following list describes situations that may cause licensing operations
 	to fail and offers some solutions.

	If, after installing and configuring the licensing software, the logfile
 	indicates that you have not obtained a license, check the following:

		* Have you shut down and restarted your computer?

		* Are all network protocols / transports configured and enabled?

		* Is the license server installed on the network using the same network
     		  transport as the client machine, i.e. NetBEUI, TCP/IP, DECnet or IPX?
